Anti-cheat is a stop sign
Kernel or user-mode anti-cheat means no code injection. The skill names these explicitly:
Valve's VAC bans modified clients on VAC-secured servers: local tests run with -insecure, and the agent never joins public servers while anything is injected. Tools that sit next to a protected game (debuggers, Cheat Engine, injecting overlays) can trip its anti-cheat even untouched, so protected games are closed before reverse-engineering sessions.
Protecting your PC and saves
- Backups before any modded launch: saves, profiles and config, restorable in one command.
- Loader DLLs are disclosed: proxy DLLs like
winhttp.dllordinput8.dllare listed with how to remove them. A separate game copy or mod-manager profile is preferred. - Registry edits are backed up by
um win reg setfirst. - It asks before driving your mouse and keyboard, installing loaders into game folders, or publishing anything, PRs included.
- Processes are killed by exact PID, never by pattern.
- Bridges and debuggers bind to 127.0.0.1 with a token, never the open network.
- No random downloads: loaders only from their official repos. A viral mod's “download” is often malware.
um backup create "C:\Users\me\Documents\My Games\Terraria" --name terraria-saves
um backup diff terraria-saves # what changed since the snapshot
um backup restore terraria-saves # put it back (snapshots the current state first)What you can and can't publish
| Publish | Don't publish |
|---|---|
| Your code | Game files, or byte-identical copies |
| Your assets, including fal output (check the model's license for commercial use) | Extracted game assets |
| Patches, diffs, converters, installers | Decompiled source, retail offsets baked into code |
| Credits and an honest note that AI was used | Leaked code or builds, or mods that need them |
um publish check --game <install> blocks the obvious cases (game files, decompiled code, leaked keys like a stray .env) before release.
Why the rules are strict: real takedowns
- Take-Two had GitHub take down re3 and reVC, the reverse-engineered GTA III and Vice City code, then sued the authors (2021).
- Activision sent the H2M mod a cease-and-desist the day before launch (2024).
Commercial use, monetization and leaked material raise the risk sharply. Some communities, such as certain recompilation Discords, ban AI-made projects outright, so disclose AI use.
When the agent stops and asks you
- The game has online parts with anti-cheat, and the idea touches them.
- The only route is bypassing a protection.
- A step would delete or overwrite saves or game files without a backup.
- Publishing: always your call.
These rules are written into the skills the agent reads. They are not enforced by code, and nothing on this page is legal advice. If a game's EULA or mod policy matters, read it.
Frequently asked questions
Can Universal Modder get my account banned?
Not if you follow its rules: single-player, offline modes or servers you run, with anti-cheat games left alone. The ban risk comes from taking a modified client online. The skills tell the agent to refuse that, but they're instructions, not a technical lock, so the call is ultimately yours.
Will it make cheats or aimbots?
No. It refuses aimbots, ESP/wallhacks, speed or teleport hacks, recoil scripts and packet manipulation for multiplayer games, whatever the framing.
Is it legal to mod games with AI?
Modding games you own for personal use is broadly tolerated, and many publishers have explicit mod policies. Risk comes from distribution: shipping game files, decompiled code, or monetizing. Read the publisher's mod policy. This isn't legal advice.
Is the toolkit itself safe to install?
It's open source and MIT licensed, so you can read every skill and script before installing. Install only from the official repo, rehan-remade/universal-modder. Be wary of “Universal Modder” downloads from anywhere else, including fan sites.
Does it touch my saves?
It backs them up first with um backup create, keeps restore as a one-line command in MODLOG.md, and prefers a separate profile or world for testing.
